HIGH LEVEL LEADERS Consultation on Stigma, Discrimination and Gender Inequality affecting Jamaica’s HIV/AIDS Response.This was held at the Wyndham Hotel on April 29, 2011.
Jamaica commemorated Safer Sex Week 2009 from February 7-14, 2009. The focus was on encouraging sexually active women to buy, carry and use condoms, highlighted by the theme “Smarter Women Always Buy Carry and Use Condoms.” The focus was reinforced by a television advertisement which was aired during Safer Sex Week.
Approximately 5000 persons stormed the lawns of Devon House on Monday, December 1, 2008 to get their free HIV test as well as to participate in the numerous empowerment and entertainment activities.
Congregants were given more than a mouthful to chew on at the World AIDS Day church service on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Swallowfield Chapel which started at 7:30 a.m. The pastor was sensitized prior to this and proved helpful in accommodating the NHP to worship with his congregation in effort to sensitize them about HIV preventive measures. This church service also served an opportunity to pray for the national HIV/AIDS response team in Jamaica.
